Packaging materials, components and weights

A reusable packaging dataset separates physical facts from country classifications. Record what the component is first; map it to national reporting categories during expert review.

Build a component list

Separate sales packaging, grouped packaging and transport packaging where known. Record components instead of only a total pack weight.

  • Bottle, cap, label and sleeve
  • Box, insert, film and adhesive
  • Pallet, wrap, strap and corner protection

Record materials and weights

Use measured net component weights where possible and document the method. Do not include product weight.

  • Material family and more specific composition if known
  • Weight per component and unit of measure
  • Reusable, returnable or composite indicators where relevant
  • Version date and source of the measurement

Connect packaging to sales

Multiply validated component data by units sold into each destination and reporting period. Keep returns and corrections traceable.

  • SKU-to-packaging version
  • Destination country
  • Units placed on market
  • Calculation version and exception notes

Map only after review

National material fractions and scope rules can differ. A component name does not itself determine a reportable category.
